Toyosu Sports Playground

On 10.13. 2020, we opened the sports park of the future, Toyosu Sport Playground.

We used this moment to ignite a conversation around a more inclusive and sustainable vision of sport, and celebrate the next generation of Japanese athletes who are taking bold leaps to 2021 and beyond.  As we continue to address the barriers of passion and access, this launch signals the start of a brand journey to build consumer confidence to change the world through competition, movement, and play.

Mission:

Create the modern sports playground for all athletes* to make sport a daily habit anywhere they are.

Toyosu Sports Park was created to provide a universal solution to a universal problem. Today’s generation is the most aware, but least active.

What we needed to do was to remove barriers to sport in the most sustainable and inclusive way.

Circular Design:

By selecting materials that were low impact, minimal waste in build, easily taken apart, and able to be recycled at the end of use, we were able to create an environment that would last longer with little or no environmental impact.

Inclusive Design:

Universal accessibility ensures that everybody can get everywhere and to everything. Adaptability means everything is designed to suit different conditions or needs. Both these ideas were fundamental in creating the environment for Toyosu. The park had to be natural and communal to create an atmosphere that is calming, reducing fear or stress while also providing an open space that allows people to gather, connect and be active together. Toyosu also needed to be thoughtful and engaging through artful details creating positive energy throughout, lifting the overall community wellbeing.

Brand Heritage:

By leveraging the history of Nike innovation, iconic silhouettes, and patterns we were able to skin the park with Nike DNA in a way that would promote discovery and deep storytelling throughout the park. Each zone of play represented different era’s from Nike history creating a visual journey from the 1960s to the 2010s.

Toyosu Sports Park resides in Tokyo, Japan, and will remain there till the end of the 2021 Olympics.
